The A9 trunk road over the Kessock Bridge was closed in the early hours of today (Tues) amid fears that a man might jump into the water.

Police officers attended at around 3am and the North Kessock based RNLI inshore lifeboat was called out to standby in the Beauly Firth.

Police officers approached the troubled man and were able to persuade him to come off the bridge.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 3am this morning officers shut the road off to engage with a man who was in distress on the bridge. Officers spoke with him before taking him for medical treatment."

A spokesman at Kessock Lifeboat Station said: "We were paged to launch this morning at 3.20am to assist Police Scotland Highland and Islands Division with an incident on the Kessock Bridge.

"Thankfully it was all resolved by the police and our help wasn’t needed.

"We had a very similar shout on Sunday morning at 5.10am.
