Sheriff Sara Matheson was told at Inverness Sheriff Court that Renicks’ victim had been travelling with a friend and decided to buy drugs.
The victim’s friend dropped him off in Old School Place and he approached Renicks and another person.
Renicks then told the victim “give me the money” and the man said he was going to call police, to which Renicks replied: “While you’re trying to buy drugs.”
The man got back into his friend’s car shaken up, and Renicks was later tracked down by police and charged.
Renicks, of Kessock Avenue, Inverness, pleaded guilty to making threats of violence, demanding money and robbing the man, all while on bail for other matters.
Defence solicitor Natalie Paterson told the court: “He has struggled with alcohol and drugs for a number of years until recently.
“He is in custody on another matter and has done a detox and prison has advised a rehab for him once he has finished his sentence.
“His intention for the future is to leave Inverness. Although he has family support here, with certain acquaintances he struggles to live a pro-social life.
“He wishes to pursue a career as a labourer.”
Sheriff Sara Matheson told him: “You are at the age you need to get all this sorted out. You are looking better because of your detox, so push forward in a positive way.”
