A man who sexually assaulted a child in an Inverness supermarket has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for three years.

Cody Grassick (18) touched the young girl inappropriately while she was looking at Christmas jumpers at Tesco Inshes on November 30, 2023.

The girl, who was under 13 at the time, was very scared after the incident, Inverness Sheriff Court was told, and pulled his hand away.

She then immediately told her mother who informed store staff and the management, fiscal depute Shamiela Ghafar told Sheriff Gary Aitken.

Grassick, of Kenneth Street, Inverness, pleaded guilty to the sexual assault charge.

Alongside placing him on the Sex Offenders’ Register, Sheriff Aitken also made Grassick subject to a three-year supervision order and ordered him to attend the Moving Forward to Change Programme, which aims to rehabilitate sexual offenders.

Grassick’s defence solicitor, Rory Gowans, said: “There is no justifiable explanation for this. He told his social worker he does not remember the incident.”

Sheriff Aitken said: “I suspect the young girl will remember this for the rest of her life.

“If you don’t remember, clearly, there is something very wrong with you.

“If you don’t engage fully or, God forbid, you repeat the behaviour, you will simply be removed from society.”
