Appeals are being made by parents of pupils at a primary school in Inverness after a devastating house fire left one its families in need of support.

Firefighters were called to tackle the fire after it took hold of a property at Carnac Crescent in Merkinch, shortly at 7.47am on Saturday morning.

SFRS confirmed that two people received treatment from the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS).

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.47am on Saturday, March 22 to reports of a fire within a domestic property on Carnac Crescent, Inverness.

"Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene where firefighters extinguished the fire.

"Two casualties were passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Local residents and members of Merkinch Primary Parent Council have responded by rallying support for the family whose home has been devastated by the blaze.

Parent council members have launched an appeal online for donations of several essential items, such as clothes, shoes, bedding and furniture, as well as baby items.

A post on the group’s Facebook page read: “Ladies and gents, a family have suffered from a house fire in the early hours of this morning.

“We have a list of items that they are in need of.

“Essentially clothes and toiletries at the moment. Anything that can help would be great please show your support.”
