Highland metal detectorists ‘dig up’ £1000 for child cancer cause at fundraiser
Kind-hearted metal detectorists have handed over more than £1000 to help children battling cancer.
Highland Metal Detectorists raised the money during a special charity event on the Black Isle earlier this year.
Around 40 to 50 members of the Facebook group visited a site for one of their three annual charity digs.
And as well as raising more than £1000 for Crocus, which helps children with cancer and their families, the day was also a big success on the archaeology front - with one member discovering a hoard of 11 silver coin dating back to the reign of King Robert II, who was monarch from 1371 to 1390.
Members of the group have now popped along the the Highland Hospice to hand over the Crocus money.
The group are one of several metal detectorist communities in the Inverness and wider area, alongside the likes of North Detectorists, and Ross-shire Relics.
Highland Metal Detectorists also have another charity dig coming up this weekend. The event, in aid of the charity SNAP, will be taking place this Sunday from 9am to 5pm. Details about the location will be posted on the group’s Facebook page on Saturday.
