PUPILS at an Inverness secondary school are hoping their first musical production in five-years will be a rocking success.

The group of youngsters and staff from Millburn Academy will perform We Will Rock You – the jukebox musical which features songs by Queen, next month.

Music teacher and musical director of the production, Karen Romaniuk said: "The show is looking amazing and the pupils and staff involved have worked extremely hard to get to this stage. We are also very lucky to have a live band on the night, which will add to the show. It’s a fantastic show with great songs that everyone will know. It would be great for as many people as possible to come and support our pupils."

The idea for the show came about last year following a meeting with staff and pupils about the possibility of a production following a lot of interest from pupils to do a musical. It was then decided that We Will Rock You would be the chosen show. Millburn hasn’t performed a musical in five years so it is a new experience for most pupils.

Miss Romaniuk added: "The cast have been working extremely hard since November. We Will Rock You is a particularly difficult show as the songs are really suited for more experienced singers. It has been a challenge for a lot of our cast but they have enjoyed the experience so far."

Twenty-five pupils from across all year groups are taking part. There are seven main principals in the show and they are: Galileo – Douglas Miller (S4); Scaramouche – Catriona Mackenzie (S5); Pop – Helen Mackenzie (S6); Killer Queen – Paula Clarke (S6); Khashoggi – Magnus Grant (S6); Meat – Ashleigh Rose (S6); Brit – Crystal Tamayo (S5).

Tickets for the show cost £5 for adults and £4 for concessions and they can be bought from the school by calling 01463 729152. The show runs from Tuesday to Thursday, June 17–19 at the school.
