Nairn bypass ’not needed’ and short-term lets ‘ruining neighbourhood’
Should we bypass the bypass for Nairn?
Does the A96 really need the Nairn bypass?
Over the past few weeks the journey into Nairn has been disrupted by minor roadworks at Delnies and Ardersier Port and anything major will surely cause major delays for months.
It seems that minor tweaks could ease the traffic problem on the A96 - get rid of the stupid 20mph restrictions around Nairn, sort the traffic lights at Lochloy and provide an exit from the Lochloy estate on the Forres side of Nairn.
These moves alone would ease traffic delays and ensure that Nairn remained active rather than a ghost town once a bypass is in place.

Community wants cap on short-term lets accommodation
An increase in holiday and short-term let (STL) properties in a residential area of Inverness is adding to the city’s housing crisis, according to community leaders. Concerns have been raised that a rise in Airbnb-style holiday accommodation in the Crown area is “crowding out” long-term residents, prompting calls for rules to be introduced to limit their numbers.
“The government need to introduce a new planning class. That would solve all these issues simply. We don't need more regulations and costs on both public services and businesses.” - David, Kilmuir
“On my street I noticed an impact on the neighbourhood regarding short-term lets. The house next door with four flats are now all taken as STLs. This is crazy that no restriction whatsoever is in place. I am a landlord with two flats that I rent in the long term. It is unfortunately easier and better paid to move to STLs rather than let as a regular landlord.” - Eric Guignard, Inverness
“Just treble the council tax and don't give them any parking permits.” - Moray Firth
I do have to say all those unsightly key safes are not in keeping with the look or authenticity of the Crown area. I think that every time I pass them which is quite often. Another way in which the character is being sucked out of Inverness!” - Christine Graham
