Highland Council coronavirus helpline handles more than 5000 calls
A helpline set up for Highland residents during the Covid-19 pandemic has received more than 5000 calls since late March.
The helpline, set up by Highland Council, provides support for those needing urgent help – including those shielding or otherwise vulnerable – and as well as for anyone interested in volunteering.
It also gives access to advice on welfare benefits, education issues, free school meals, key worker childcare and business grants.
Staff have taken more than 5000 calls to the number – 0300 303 1362 – since March 25.
Council leader Margaret Davidson said: “I want to sincerely thank our staff and those from Eden Court who have been helping to answer calls for all their hard work.
"The speed in which the helpline was established is a credit to them and all our own staff who will be continuing to assist anyone who contacts the helpline.
“The high level of calls being dealt with shows the importance of continuing to provide as much support to people as possible, so I would encourage anyone needing urgent assistance to call the helpline as staff are ready to help.”
This Friday is VE Day and a bank holiday and as a result the helpline will operate slightly reduced hours, from 10am-4pm.
Out of hours emergency weekend support is also available via the same number.
For all other non-Covid-related matters people should continue to contact the council service centre on the usual number – 01349 886602 – or use online forms to make payments, report problems or request a service. These are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week here.
