MSP welcomes new road crossings plans
Campaigners have welcomed proposals to make a busy Inverness thoroughfare more accessible.
Bear Scotland has announced that it is to open a public consultation into plans to improve walking and cycling facilities between Longman and Telford roundabouts.
It is thought that the project would include dedicated crossings over the River Ness for those using sustainable transport.
Regional Labour MSP David Stewart, who has campaigned for crossings to be installed in the area, said: "There does seem to be more positive soundings from Transport Scotland compared to when I first took this up 18 months ago.
"I am always cautious about celebrating a win until we see exactly what’s being suggested and before talking to residents who are campaigning for a controlled pedestrian crossing in this area.
"However, it’s progress and I certainly hope that it will result in making this road safer for all pedestrians, especially children and the elderly.
"I’d encourage everyone interested to attend the exhibition and reply to the consultation."
The traffic signals at the junction between Tomnahurich Street and Kenneth Street would also be upgraded as part of the plans.
The consultation is due to be held on August 30 at Cameron Youth Centre.
Bear Scotland’s north- west representative Eddie Ross said: "These measures will contribute to improved pedestrian safety in the city."
"We are looking forward to welcoming the public to the consultation event in Inverness in late August, listening to their suggestions and answering any queries they may have."
