Nairn band set for ‘homecoming’ at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival with new album preview
A Nairn band is getting ready to play at Belladrum this weekend as they offer a sneak peek of their latest album at the event.
The Fonsecas, formed by Kenny McKenzie, Daryl Short, Jasmin Bray-Triance and Andy Clucas, will release their new 10-track album Sun, Sand & Salt, on August 27, however fans will be able to get their hands on the CDs at the Tartan Heart Festival.
The band, based between Nairn and Aberdeenshire, will be playing multiple sets at the Bar stage, the Ice house stage and the Burke and Hair stage today (Friday, July 26) and two more tomorrow said they are delighted to return to the festival.
Mr Clucas said: “Belladrum is our homecoming, we meet so many folk we know and spend the weekend catching up and having the craic.
“I’m from Nairn and in my youth, I would have to travel to Aberdeen, Edinburgh or Glasgow for live music, so was delighted to see it “home grown in the Highlands!
“We try to support Highland and north of Scotland festivals and venues as much as possible, as the crowds are always up for it and it’s our home turf! I was at Bella the first year and it was roasting! And was just delighted to see it coming to fruition and growing stronger each year. So the first chance I had I played at the festival with The Oxbow Lake Band and now with The Fonsecas.”
He said of the new album: “The opening track, Salt & Rust, has a west African or world music feel, mixed in with our acoustic trad folk stylings. The album has a good few 'dancers', mixing high-energy trad folk with world music, as well as some beautiful ballads.”
The album will be free to download from their website, but fans can buy the CDs at Belladrum or pre-order on Bandcamp.
