Nairn pushes the boat out for Queen's Jubilee with Royal Regatta and farmers' market
HUNDREDS of people were attracted to the Jubilee Farmers' Street Market and Nairn Sailing Club’s Royal Regatta at the weekend.
Street market organiser Nairn Connects BID was delighted with the turnout, while the harbour was festooned with flags and banners and many people took the opportunity to go on a boat trip into the Moray Firth.
The town is now looking forward to this weekend when the Queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee. The big event is a Picnic in the Park at Viewfield on Sunday, while other events locally will also mark the occasion.
Lord Lieutenant George Asher said: “The weekend will start on Thursday with a flag raising at 11am at the Royal British Legion.
"The Nairn Old Parish Church will ring their bells to coincide with this and later that day the 1st Nairn Scout Group will congregate and light a beacon in line with all the beacons that are being lit up and down the nation.
“On Sunday, there will be an ecumenical service at Nairn Old Parish Church to celebrate the life of service given by HM The Queen.
"This will be followed at noon by the Picnic in the Park at Viewfield, a free event, where the community is encouraged to attend to celebrate the Jubilee. It will include local music, kids’ entertainment, refreshments, and lots more.”
Mr Asher added: “It’s good to see so many people getting involved with street parties and other community events, hopefully the sun will shine, and everyone will have a great time.”
n Croy Community Council and members of the local community are teaming up to organise an afternoon tea on Saturday to mark the Platinum Jubilee. The event at Croy Hall begins at 2pm. Chairman Bruce Strachan said: “We also have a concert laid on with lots of local talent. It’s free entry but we will be taking donations for Red Cross Ukraine.”
