He was stopped by police, two miles south of Spittal in Caithness, on June 16, last year, and failed a roadside breath test. A follow-up test revealed a reading of 61mcg – almost three-times the legal limit of 22mcg.

Morrison, of Sandown Farm Lane, Nairn, could be facing an above the minimum ban. Sheriff Neil Wilson observed the accused had an analogous conviction for drink-driving within a 10-year period.

The case was continued until February 19, for a background report.

An interim ban was imposed on Morrison.
