Nairn drop-in service for those in addiction sees over 210 attendees in first year
A drop-in service in Nairn which provides people in addiction with a safe space, has been operating for one year this week.
The SMART Recovery drop-in, has seen over 210 people come along to the sessions since they began in April 2022.
Taking place weekly at the United Reformed Church, attendees can come along to get a bowl of soup, and have a chat with the dedicated volunteers.
For organiser Debbie Smith, it has been a rewarding year. She said: "It has been amazing and we have seen so many people come through the doors.
"It provides them a chance to come somewhere without stigma and just have a chat or take time to read a newspaper.
"We also run our SMART Recovery sessions that help people cope with triggers and manage thoughts."
One of those who attended said: "At the drop in we have lots of laughs, chat, serious conversations, peer support, crafts, tea and coffee – lots of tea and coffee, we are warm, we are safe, we have games, activities share a commonality, have soup – delicious soup!
"Most of all we have a connection, a connection to each other where, that when we lose sight of our blessings we can remind each other of how our journey is either starting, continuing or blossoming with the love that is surrounding us."
Another attendee said about the sessions: "“Thank you for introducing me back to life.”
No referrals are needed for attending the sessions provided. They take place on Wednesdays from 1pm – 3pm.
