FLORAL displays in Nairn town centre have been enhanced with some hanging baskets and planters provided by Nairn BID.

This is in addition to floral displays around the town provided by Keep Nairn Colourful, Highland Council and individual businesses and local organisations.

BID manager Lucy Harding said they were proud to have made some positive changes to the appearance of the town over the summer.

“As well as the hanging baskets and extra tub planters, we also commissioned some extra deep cleaning of areas such as Academical Square and the alleyways between the High Street and the car parks,” she said.

“This is in addition to our grant programmes which have allowed BID members to apply for funding to paint their shop fronts and our gutter cleaning programme, not to mention the seagull control programme which stopped over 1000 eggs from hatching this spring.”

BID has used its ability to apply for extra funding to obtain grants from the coastal communities fund and from the Highland Council’s town centre development fund.

“In addition to the planters, this is being used to supply new recycled plastic picnic benches for the Links as well as new modern wooden benches for the High Street, and eventually we hope, window vinyls for selected shop windows, both occupied and empty,” Ms Harding said.

“With help from HiTrans, we are working on replacing all the finger signposts around town, and we have already completed the renovation of one map board with help from the Scotland Loves Local Fund.

“There will soon be new notice boards and further signage and maps for locals and visitors alike, making Nairn a more welcoming place for all.

“We are sure that residents, members and visitors alike will agree that Nairn was a great place to be this summer,

“The shopfront painting grant has been very successful, helping 24 businesses so far who have claimed nearly £11,000.

“We also have a contractor pricing up painting of more businesses, so hopefully more will be done
by the end of the financial year.

“Businesses who have not yet claimed need to
do so by the end of September for this round of funding.”
