Nairn residents bring festive cheer to sheltered housing tenants
RESIDENTS of a Nairn street have brought some Christmas cheer to the tenants of a local sheltered housing complex.
Many of the residents of McLean Court in Albert Street have had a difficult year as they faced a range of tragedies and challenges.
Neighbours gathered gifts and Santa visited last Monday with a sack of goodies which were deposited at the main door.
Organiser of the gesture, Marie Cruickshank, said: “The complex has 14 tenants and it’s not been a good year for them.
“One of the tenants was tragically killed while out for an evening walk when he was struck by a car. And that obviously had an impact on everyone.
“Then a fire in one of the flats led to the evacuation of the building and on top of that, of course, they have not been able to see families for long spells due to Covid restrictions.
“We have been doing this for a couple of years and we know it brings a lot of pleasure to the residents at this time of year. They are very much part of our community.”
Neil Mapes donned his Santa outfit to make the special delivery with friends and neighbours and his daughter Suzi was his assistant elf.
