A woman who was called back home from her father's 70th birthday party to help with the children was confronted by her drunk partner who became argumentative.

Andrew Young struggled with the woman in her home in Loch Avenue, Nairn, and twice struck a mirror in a rage, fiscal depute Robert Weir told Sheriff Gary Aitken.

"He pushed her away by putting his hand on her neck and police were contacted,” he said. “Officers attended and found the house in a bit of disarray with the woman distressed."

Young, who is aged 36 with an address in George Street, Nairn, admitted threatening or abusive behaviour which was committed on the evening of February 10 this year.

Defending, Graham Mann told Inverness Sheriff Court: "He is the author of his own difficulties. At the time he was medicated due to pressure on his business. He is self employed and didn't take his medication that evening but was drinking.

"He is hopeful he can get back home."

Fining Young £720, Sheriff Aitken told him: "There is no excuse for behaviour of this kind, no matters the pressures you were under."
