Cannabis worth more than £1.6m seized in two police operations
Police have seized cannabis worth more than £1.6 million in two operations in one day.
In the first incident, officers stopped a vehicle in Mount High, Balblair, on the Black Isle in the Highlands, at around 9am on Tuesday and recovered cannabis worth an estimated street value of £600,000.
Two men, aged 29 and 33, have been arrested and charged in connection with the recovery and they were due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Detective Superintendent Brian Geddes said: “This recovery sends a clear message that we will not tolerate illegal drugs in our communities.
Tackling drugs remains one of our top priorities and this operation highlights our commitment to eradicating them from our communities
“Our officers are determined to protect the public from this harmful criminality by disrupting the cultivation and sale of illegal substances, preventing them being circulated in our local areas and addressing the concerns of local people.”
At around 4pm on Tuesday, officers entered a property on Forth Street, Stirling, and recovered about 1,400 cannabis plants worth an estimated street value of £1 million.
Two men, aged 24 and 29, have been arrested in connection with the incident and they were due to appear at Stirling Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Chief Inspector Kat Thompson said: “Tackling drugs remains one of our top priorities and this operation highlights our commitment to eradicating them from our communities.
“We will use all available tools to combat this activity, but we cannot do it alone. We rely on the support and co-operation from the public and we encourage anyone with information or concerns about drugs to get in touch with us.”
