By PA News

Three men have been charged over the death of a 35-year-old man in South Lanarkshire.

Joe Buchanan was found fatally injured on Springhill Street in the village of Douglas on Sunday at around 8.35pm.

He died at the scene.

Detectives launched a murder inquiry and said they believed the attack was a “targeted incident”.

They announced on Saturday that three men – aged 21, 40 and 41 – had been charged in connection with Mr Buchanan’s death.

They are due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Tuesday and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

In a statement last week, Mr Buchanan’s family said he had a “heart of gold”, adding: “We want to thank everyone who has shown support to the family.

“Joe had a heart of gold, and we would appeal to anyone who has any information to come forward.

“We would also ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”
