Delight as fire-ravaged Fort Augustus medical centre's replacement opens its doors; £1m Cill Chuimein Medical Centre is double the size of its predecessor
A NEW £1 million state-of the art medical centre has opened in Fort Augustus.
The Cill Chuimein Medical Centre was opened today by Scotland’s minister for rural affairs, Mairi Gougeon.
The Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston Community Company (FAGCC) has been the driving force behind the creation of the facility. which replaces a former medical centre destroyed by fire in 2015.
The new centre secures GP services in the area, avoiding residents having to travel to Fort William or Drumnadrochit for standard medical care.
Double the size of the centre it replaces, it houses four consulting rooms, two treatment rooms and a lift to help make it accessible to all.
It will house up to 10 long-term members of staff and the additional rooms mean health services can be expanded into podiatry and optometry, as well as offering the ability to take on a new trainee GP.
NHS Highland chief executive Iain Stewart said: “This is a fantastic achievement by the Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston Community Company and a great example of partnership working here in Highland.”
