Positives grow for pipe band
THE new Pipe Major of Nairn Pipe Band has revealed things are looking a lot brighter for it's future after concerns over it's failure to attract new blood.
Kevin Reid, who was appointed at a crisis meeting of the band in September said: "Things have been moving at a pace and we have had an amazing response from the community and local players for our open practice session held on Thursday 6th October in Nairn British Legion.
"We had nine young persons attend all keen to learn and play in the band.
"Richard Anderson took the pipers through their paces and has put a schedule in place to help them progress and improve in order to get them playing in the band.
"It will be an intense winter for them but we are confident we will get them out in our ranks next season.
"We also also had a few more experienced players attend the practice with a view to joining the band which was also great and will strengthen the band in depth."
Kevin added: "The best thing, though, about the practice was the mood of optimism. The parents that were there were all very positive about the future of the band and keen to see their young people play in the band.
"We are only taking the first step on our journey but already things are looking promising.
"From a personal point of view it was, again, reassuring and empowering to witness the response of the local community and the support they are willing to provide.
"In order to support our new players we have restructured the committee with a focus on ensuring we have everything in place for a successful band.
"Due to the increase in numbers we will be beginning fundraising in the near future for additional instruments and outfits.
"Suffice to say I am excited and looking forward to a new chapter in Nairn Pipe Band."
