New DIY store set for Homebase site in Inverness
UP to 80 full and part-time jobs are to be created at the former Homebase superstore in Inverness.
The outlet was one of 42 closed across the country by owners last year when they entered into a company voluntary agreement (CVA).
The move was believed to have resulted in the loss of around 50 jobs locally.
The premises at Inverness Shopping Park are now being taken over by The Range, which will offer products across 16 departments including arts and crafts, home interiors and DIY. A family café and outdoor garden centre also form part of the planned development.
The Range claims to be one of Britain’s fastest growing retailers and its founder Chris Dawson said opening a new store was always an exciting moment.
“The job provision that comes with the new store should be a great boost for the local area,” he added.
Renovations have already started and the new store is expected to open on July 12.
Stewart Nicol, chief executive of Inverness Chamber of Commerce, said the development provided more evidence of the strength of the city’s economy.
“The number of jobs being created is really positive for the city and it’s good to see the retail park continue to be so active,” he said.
