New initiative to transform volunteering practices launched in Inverness
A new regional initiative aimed at reshaping the future of volunteering in the Highlands has officially launched following an event at the UHI Campus in Inverness.
The Volunteer Academy, developed by the Highland Third Sector Interface (HTSI), was formally unveiled on Friday May 23.
During a half-day programme that featured presentations and networking, those in attendance were introduced to a suite of new services intended to modernise how individuals and organisations engage with volunteering.
Designed to operate on a hybrid basis, the Volunteer Academy promises to offer both in-person and digital-first opportunities across a range of platforms.
Its services include access to diverse volunteering roles across the region, structured training programmes, and a new Skills Bank offering flexible, time-specific support for both volunteers and the groups they serve.
Also part of the initiative is a newly formed Volunteer Council, which will serve as a feedback and advisory group ensuring that the Academy’s development is informed by those with lived experience.
A Fellowship Programme, intended to promote research into volunteering practices in the Highlands, will also form a cornerstone of the Academy’s offer, with findings expected to contribute to a biannual lecture series.
Attendees at the launch were given an overview of the new framework, followed by a networking lunch which brought together community leaders, project stakeholders, and volunteers from across the Highlands.
