New Nairn boathouse plans approved
A group involved in the booming sport of coastal rowing has been given the go-ahead to build a boathouse in Nairn.
Nairn Coastal Rowing Club plans to develop a boathouse for the storage of boats as well as a meeting room in the boatyard next to the town’s harbour in the conservation area.
The project has been given conditional approval under delegated powers by Highland Council planning officer Lauren Neil.
“Although situated in a prominent location near the seafront, the use and design are suited to this part of the conservation area and will complement the surrounding buildings,” she stated in her report.
The outside walls will be steel clad and finished in colours similar to that of the nearby Sundancer restaurant which is painted teal and white. The steel roof will also have a blue finish, similar to the restaurant.
The council’s flood risk team notes the site is next to the coast and the River Nairn.
“The applicant should be aware that the building is potentially at risk of flooding and we would recommend that flood resilient materials and construction methods are used,” it stated.
