New year new park as works for Inverness Whin Park facelift set to start in January
Works to install new play equipment at Whin Park in Inverness are set to start in January, Highland Council has confirmed.
Starting on Monday, January 6, works for the transformation of the landmark area are expected to be completed by Easter 2025 - depending on weather conditions.
Funding for the contract has been awarded by the Scottish Government Play Area Fund (£234,988), as well as £150,000 from the Inverness Common Good Funding and a further £100,000 from the Community Regeneration Fund.
Chair of Communities and Place Committee, Cllr Graham MacKenzie, said: “Final preparations are in place to allow works to start, with Jupiter Play and Leisure Ltd appointing Play Works Ltd as their on-site contactor who will be installing the equipment.”
The park will remain open during the works, but the main play area and a section of the car park in front of the shop will be closed to allow the works to progress.
The path network will also remain open enabling the public to view the works’ progress.
Michael Hoenigmann, managing director of Jupiter Play & Leisure said: “We are delighted to have been chosen to design and build the new play area at Whin Park.
“This is an ambitious project which will be inclusive for all abilities while offering high play value and challenge. “It’s unique features including the Nessie Structure with Interactive Sona Arch will be hugely popular with families that visit the site.
“We look forward to working closely with the team at Highland Council to deliver this prestigious project.”
