New York artist to show selection of his work in Inverness art gallery

Artist Randy Klinger, who founded the Moray Art Centre, is to show some of his work in a month-long show in the Highland capital.

Titled "Presence" the exhibition will open in the Upstairs Gallery at the offices of HRI Munro Architecture in Academy Street on Monday.

Mr Klinger said since early childhood he has understood and experienced art and beauty as a physical, neurological experience of “upliftment”, able to transport the viewer into an elevated state.

“It is this that I wish to share with others,” he said.

He graduated from the Cooper Union in New York and later in his career, art historian Ernst Gombrich became his mentor.

Mr Klinger began teaching art when he moved to Scotland in 1992 and ran a small studio before opening the Moray Art Centre at Findhorn in 2007.

He now teaches people how to see and draw accurately, and to understand and master form.

He has also exhibited in the US, Italy, Germany, Japan, Switzerland and Scotland.

In Presence, he provides details about the person but leaves much to the imagination of the viewer.

“In this exhibition of work, what I am interested in is creating presence, images of people with whom the beholder can become curious, then sympathetic towards, becoming, as it were, a perfect friend to the viewer,” he said.

The exhibition will run until until August 28.

Upstairs Gallery is open to the public between 10am and 4pm on weekdays.
