A local Highlands photographer 'ticks off bucket list item' after capturing two newly weds glowing under the picturesque skies in Inverness.

Inverness photographer Michael Carver was working for a young couple's wedding at Bogbain when he stumbled upon one of the world's most magnificent backdrops for any photo; the Northern Lights.

Immediately, Michael felt the urge to capture the couple underneath the skies that created a kaleidoscope of colours and tones.

He said: "I know how quickly this can come and go so I shouted at some poor guy who was smoking outside to quickly run in and grab the bride and groom whilst I set up my camera.

"Eventually someone dragged her from the dance floor and I had a few seconds to try and grab a shot while the Northern Lights pulsed brightly."

After waiting years for his moment to capture the Northern Lights, the photographer said the event was a "very special bucket list item" that he was "delighted" to capture.

Michael thanked the newly weds for being "such good sports" whilst he "barked orders at them in the cold".

The photo has been a viral success as it's reached hundreds of likes and comments via Facebook as people are blown away by the incredible scene.
