NHS Highland nurse director posts video thanking nursing staff on National Nurses Day during the coronavirus pandemic

This year has been declared the international year of the nurse and midwife and today is National Nurses' Day.

In the video posted on Twitter Heidi May, NHS Highland's nurse director, points out that current circumstances are far from normal – otherwise the occasion would have been marked with multiple celebrations.

The video, she said, was her chance to mark the occasion.

"This is an opportunity for me to say 'Thank you' to all of you for everything that you are doing," she said.

"Some of you have changed your roles entirely, some of you have adapted your roles and some of you have undertaken considerable training to ensure that we have the best possible chance of giving the best care to our patients and keeping our communities safe, and we really appreciate that."

She thanks not only the nurses and midwives but also hospital porters, domestic colleagues and members of multi-disciplinary teams as well as council staff and those working in the third sector.
