Highland Mainline to run no trains between Inverness and Perth for 4 weekends in a row while engineering takes place; buses will replace ScotRail and LNER trains
No trains will run on the Highland Mainline for four weekends in a row from the middle of next month, it has emerged.
Buses will replace trains between Inverness and Perth in both directions while engineering work is carried out.
The highly disruptive works get under way on Saturday, November 16, with buses then running instead of trains on the weekends of November 16-17, 23-24, November 30 and December 1, and December 7-8.
The disruption has been revealed on ScotRail's website, and it is understood it will affect ScotRail journeys between Inverness and the Central Belt, as well as LNER journeys between the Highland capital and London Kings Cross.
The Caledonian Sleeper, meanwhile, will divert via Aberdeen on those dates, with stations between Perth and Inverness being covered by bus replacement connections.
The engineering work will be taking place on different sections of the Highland Mainline, depending on the weekend, but the closure between Perth and Inverness will be in force for each of them.
