Inverness nursery unveils new outdoor equipment with virtual visit by Highland MSP and Scottish Government minister for children and early years Maree Todd
Busy Bees nursery in Inverness received Scottish Government funds to transform its outdoor provision, which now includes a summer house and eco toilets.
The funding for the nursery in the city's Stratherrick Road, was part of a national plan to increase the capacity of early years provision in Scotland.
The improvements made to the outdoor area will support the nursery’s commitment to the new initiative to increase free childcare to 1140 hours per year.
Centre director Fiona Mackenzie applied for the grant last year and was delighted when Highland Council allocated funding to enhance their outdoor provision.
The virtual tour was followed by a group discussion surrounding current government policy and provision, and collaboration with local authorities, with a view to share ideas and promote best practice.
Ms Todd, said: “Making sure every child gets a great start in life is important, which is why it is so valuable for us to continue to fund the sector and help increase the capacity and facilities of nurseries across the country. I’m looking forward to being able to visit Busy Bees Inverness in person soon.”
Busy Bees chief academic officer and founder, Marg Randles, said: “It was great to discuss the current policies and provisions in place to support nurseries in Scotland. We were delighted to share our thoughts and ideas about how to give children across the whole of Scotland the best start in life.”
