Our Man in Holyrood: Inquiry could help speed up A9 and A96 road dualling projects
– LAST week in Holyrood we marked Holocaust Memorial Day and honoured the memory of the six million Jews, and millions of others, who were brutally murdered by the Nazi regime.
I am pleased to have led the member debate on this important topic and raised also the importance of education of future generations of our children at First Minister’s Questions.
In my speech, I paid tribute to my former boss, Leslie Wolfson, who through his tireless efforts, helped to secure the release of prisoners of conscience from Russian labour camps. We vow never to forget the atrocities committed during the Holocaust and reaffirm our commitment to combating hate and discrimination in all forms.
– I HAVE been consistently pressing the case of the Scottish Government’s commitment to dual the A9 and the A96 including the Nairn bypass.
Both are key infrastructure projects that will improve safety and boost economic growth and connectivity to the region.
Despite repeated promises and announcements, progress on dualling has been slow. A petition lodged by Laura Hansler, from Kingussie, will, I hope, lead to an inquiry within parliament on the A9. When it comes before us, I will call for such inquiry specifically to examine the procurement process.
This is a crucial step in ensuring that the project can be progressed as rapidly as possible.
The inquiry can provide an opportunity to understand any challenges and identify solutions to overcome them, so that the A9 and indeed the A96 – starting with the section from Smithton to Auldearn – can be dualled as soon as possible.
– I AM thrilled to hear that the Cairngorm Mountain Funicular Railway has officially reopened and is ready for the snowsports season. The railway will take visitors to the top of the slopes in just under five minutes.

After extensive improvement works and investment into its service, this reopening will greatly benefit the local economy in Strathspey and invite visitors from all over to enjoy the Cairngorms.
Not only will it be a great attraction for visitors but it will also provide a boost to the local businesses in the area who welcome visitors to the area.
I’m hoping for a great snow season this year and that everyone can come and experience the beauty of the Cairngorm mountains and all the area has to offer, and to support the railway in its new improved state.
