Some flights take off - but Inverness Airport passengers face more disruption
Inverness Airport
FLIGHTS at Inverness Airport will face continued disruption due to drifting volcanic ash this afternoon (Tuesday) - although some services have managed to get off the ground.
It follows the eruption of the Grimsvotn volcano in Iceland which began on Saturday evening.
Airports across Scotland have been hit by severe disruption.
Two flights to London Gatwick, which had been scheduled to depart from Inverness at 12.50pm, left just after 1.30pm, while a 2pm service to Stornoway/Benbecula departed just a few minutes later than planned.
Meanwhile, a departure to Belfast City, which had been scheduled to leave at 11am, is now due to depart at 3.10pm.
However, flights due to leave for Bristol and London Gatwick at 1.55pm were both been cancelled, as was an earlier service that was meant to leave from London Luton at 11.30am.
Planes due to arrive in Inverness from Benbecula/Stornoway, London Gatwick and Bristol this morning were also halted. And another inbound service from Sumburgh/Kirkwall due at 5.10pm has been grounded.
Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) confirmed there will be limited services operating throughout the afternoon, and advised passengers to contact their airline before travelling to the airport.
A spokeswoman said: "HIAL will continue to work closely with all flight operators and to update its flight information as soon as it is available."
For the latest information on arrivals and departures visit www.hial.co.uk
The spokesman added that all passengers travelling from any of HIAL’s 11 airports are urged to contact individual airlines directly for further information.
