The youngster’s homemade poster says it all - awesome.

It was September 2021 and families, friends and supporters had gathered in Inverness High Street to welcome home participants in the Maggie’s 500 cycling challenge – a five-day fundraiser for Maggie’s Highlands cancer support centre.

This image, which forms part of an online retrospective series, Behind The Lens: The Legacy of a Highland news photographer, was taken by Highland News & Media photographer, Gary Anthony.

He was there to capture the scenes as members of the 40-strong team comprising business leaders crossed the finish line after completing a route which involved climbing 30,000ft – more than the height of Everest.

The Behind The Lens series is being run in tribute to Gary who died who died in August 2023, aged 58.

Although an unassuming and modest person, to thousands across the area, he was the popular and visible face of Highland News & Media – and often recognisable due to his lofty height - capturing moments of history in the making, recording people's triumphs and tragedies and observing day-to-day life.
