Picture flashback: Missing bird of prey in Highlands returns

This striking picture of Croy falconer Allan MacKinnon with Bonnie is the latest image in our series, Behind The Lens: The Legacy of a Highland news photographer.

The online retrospective series is being run in tribute to Highland News & Media photographer Gary Anthony who died in August 2023, aged 58.

This image was taken in February 2021 and depicts Allan with the Harris hawk which had gone missing but was then found.

As well as celebrating his talent and versatility, the series is also evoking memories of the many stories he covered in our community.

As the man behind the lens, Gary captured moments of history in the making, recorded people's triumphs and tragedies and observed day-to-day life.
