Packs of afternoon tea are being delivered to hundreds of homes across an Inverness neighbourhood in a gesture to lift people’s spirits during lockdown.

Community leaders in Smithton are organising doorstep deliveries of the packs, including scones and jam, to 1050 homes.

Smithton Residents Association has joined forces with Smithton Community Council and also enlisted the support of a team of volunteers for the venture.

Ina Melville, association chairwoman, said Easter eggs had been delivered to children a few weeks ago and now it was the turn of the adults to receive a treat.

“We thought it would be nice to cheer everyone up and deliver afternoon tea in a bag,” she said. “There has been some great feedback so far.

“People are surprised and really touched by it.”
