Chinese New Year celebrated in Inverness welcoming in the year of the snake
All the stops were pulled out to celebrate Chinese New Year in Inverness, last night.
The Scottish Highlands, Islands and Moray Chinese Association (SHIMCA) welcomed in the year of the snake with music, dancing and a raffle.
Starting off in Buckie, The World Famous Glasgow Hong Lok & Lion Dancing Troupe performed the traditional lion dance, before making their way up to Inverness for the waking of the lion at Market Brae Steps.
Attendees then enjoyed a three-course banquet at the Kingsmills Hotel, where local children sang traditional Chinese songs and popular musician Andy Chung led sing-a-long tunes.
Chinese deputy Consul General Qi Qi attended the event, where he thanked SHIMCA chairperson Monica Lee-Macpherson and others for the work they have been doing to promote Chinese culture.
Nearly £700 was raised for SHIMCA at the event through a calligrapher writing people’s names and a raffle.
Lights on Ness Bridge will be turned red in order to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
