PICTURES: Daredevils help Highland Hospice by facing the zipline challenge at North Kessock
Daredevil fundraisers helped raise more than £100,000 by taking part in a 1500ft zipline challenge.
Fundraisers made a series of descents from the Kessock Bridge to North Kessock over the weekend in aid of Highland Hospice, the event marking both the charity’s 35th anniversary and the 40th anniversary of the bridge itself.
Hospice fundraiser Emma Nicol said: “We are all absolutely buzzing after such a successful event. Income is still coming in from sponsorship, and we are confident we will clear a gross sum of £130,000 – before costs – which is honestly more than we could ever have imagined.
“Big Bang Productions who ran the Zipline for us were just so professional, calm and caring and every single person who did it seemed to have a truly incredible experience.
“The thing that really struck me about this weekend was the happy atmosphere and the range of people participating. We had over 500 zippers aged from 12 to almost 80, of all different backgrounds and reasons for wanting to do it.
“It really was so inclusive – from Highland Hospice patients to participants who were blind, deaf, an amputee, those who were zipping in memory of a loved one, people scared of heights to those who were confident and couldn’t wait for the buzz of it all. Over the weekend we heard so many emotional stories from people and their reasons for taking part. My eyes were filled with tears on several occasions.”
She thanked North Kessock for being so accommodating and all those who supported the event.
