PICTURES: Highland Print Studio wins new fans in Oman
An Inverness art group travelled to the Middle East to share their artistic skills
From Alba to Arabia was an exhibition of contemporary art from Scotland that was part of a British Council-funded project involving staff from the Highland Print Studio in Inverness.
It was on display at Stal Gallery in Oman from mid-December to mid-January and attracted a large number of participants from the host country.
Print studio director Alison McMenemy said the experience was an opportunity to share skills.
She said: “It was a once in a lifetime experience to be in Oman and to be sharing printmaking with such a diverse group of people. I would like to say a huge thanks to all involved for making it so interesting.
“Oman was a great country and the people were really friendly. It was like being in Scotland in many ways, the country reminded me of it.
“We had several days in Oman, setting up the exhibition and then showing people how to make prints in a print workshop. They were all very well attended.
“One man came along specially because he had been a student in Scotland and wanted to share his memories of the country with us.”
Waseem Kotoub, senior programme manager for culture and sport at British Council Gulf, said: “The UK-Gulf Exhibition Programme aims to build cultural bridges and create opportunities for museums and galleries in both the UK and the Gulf. We hope that this programme will develop strong relationships and leave a lasting legacy.”
