PICTURES: Eastgate Shopping Centre and Victorian Market in Inverness reopen after coronavirus lockdown
Inverness's shopping centres were finally able to fully reopen for business this week as coronavirus restrictions were further eased.
There was a steady stream of shoppers throughout Monday morning at the Eastgate Shopping Centre while there was a more cautious response from customers at the historic Victorian Market.
Bargain hunters were hoping to bag a good deal as Next in the Eastgate centre opened its doors for a sale from 7am.
Jackie Cuddy, the manager of the Eastgate centre, said there had been a good start and there had been a positive response from the shops which had reopened yesterday.
She said: “Speaking to retailers it’s been steady all morning and I think it will grow towards the weekend.”
Jo Murray, the manager of the Victorian Market, said there had been a slow start and not all of the market’s businesses had reopened.
“They have been working very hard behind the scenes to make sure the shops are as safe as possible for customers,” she said.
“It’s good that people are coming back into town and getting back into a routine.”
Special measures to ensure social distancing have been put in place at the Eastgate Shopping Centre.
Measures there included signs asking customers to wear masks at all times, shop responsibly and respect others by adhering to social distancing.
In addition, a cleaning chemical used on all touch points in the centre would provide protection for 30 days and only the Falcon Square, High Street and car park entrances would be accessible while it was open.
