Inverness Morning Call social isolation charity celebrates Christmas and Lotto funding success with festive Highland lunch day
Festive celebrations were the order of the day when a charity which works to tackle isolation and loneliness among older people held a special Christmas lunch.
Morning Call, which was set up in 1989 and delivers a free daily call service to those experiencing social isolation, held a festive meal celebration in Smithton Church Café earlier this month.
It was a chance for the Inverness-based charity’s members and users to get together and enjoy a social occasion.
And there was an added reason to celebrate as well, as the day also marked their recent successful application for lottery funding that will help to provide the money needed to cover Morning Call’s costs for at least another year.
Organisers wished to thank the lottery for its funding as well as all the local organisations and businesses which have supported them through the years - and continue to do so.
This support extended to the festive meal itself, with much of the lunch donated by the Culloden House Hotel, while Inverness Fiddlers kindly provided entertainment for the occasion.
During Morning Call’s 35-year history it has supported hundreds of older people living in Inverness and the wider Highlands. As well as ensuring service users get a daily call to check if they are well, the charity also offers weekly home visiting services and even a library service.
It was one of the first charity’s in Scotland to offer a free daily call service to older people in need.
