PICTURES: Nairn photographer captures spectacular Aurora display over Moray Firth
The Northern Lights were back in the Moray Firth skies last week after an unexpected CME (coronal mass ejection), created the right conditions for a spectacular display.
Some local photographers shared their night-time captures on social media after the lights showed up in their majestic beauty over the two weekends.
Among them was photographer Magnus Macleod captured the glow from Nairn beach and Harbour on the night between September 13 and 14.
He said: "I’m just an amateur photographer and all my equipment is used but it's amazing what can be achieved with a little investment of time and effort.
"Capturing the lights is often just a combination of luck and sheer determination to get that one special shot, all the while freezing oneself out in the open environment.
"For me it's as much about the hunt and forcing myself to get outside as it is about getting the actual photo.
"I personally feel much closer to the natural world around me and stand in awe at the immensity of the universe.
"It’s a thrilling experience when the lights finally do appear and it's that exhilaration that one feels which makes the struggle completely worth the effort."
