PICTURES: Nairn Regatta a 'great advert' for coastal rowing
The chairman of Nairn Coastal Rowing Club hailed their first ever regatta yesterday as a "great advert" for the sport.
Six teams from across the Highlands descended upon Nairn beach on Saturday to compete for the Strathnairn Cup, a new trophy donated by Strathnairn Beach Cafe.
Eventual winners Avoch competed against five other crews on the day, including Ullapool, Strathpeffer, Golspie, Findhorn and hosts Nairn.
Club chairman Andy Walker said: "The public really bought into the whole experience with many locals, tourists and day-trippers stopping to watch proceedings and asking lots of questions of those competing.
"Overall, there is no doubt it was a great advert for the sport of coastal rowing. The feedback since, on social media, has been really quite overwhelming, and it would appear that, along with all of the photos taken, it has been a great advert for the town.
"It all culminated in a very competitive event with Nairn just being pipped at the post taking second place, two points behind the winners Avoch.
"The club has learned a lot from their 1st regatta and will take a lot of points onboard to ensure the event continues in a positive direction. Looking forward to next year!'
