PICTURES: Runners delighted to be back at Baxters Loch Ness marathon event after Coronavirus delays
Baxters Loch Ness marathon made a triumphant return on Sunday October 3. Runners took part in various races - 5k, 10k, and the 26-mile marathon.
The event was hosted in Bught park, with food and drink available from local businesses and shopping tents supplying fitness gear. It was the first marathon since 2019 due to the pandemic putting a hold on plans.
The marathon attracted competitors from far and wide. Stuart Livingstone took home mens first place, with a time of 2:32:20. Not far behind was the ladies winner, Megan Crawford, completing the marathon in 2:48:12.
Many of the participants were running in a bid to raise money for charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Highland Hospice and Action for Children.
Katie (4) and Connor Bannerman (8) took part in the 5k, accompanied by their parents. They raised £630 for their friend's father who passed away a year ago. The money will be donated to the Highland Hospice.
It was a chilly day, but a welcome one, providing the return of much loved local events. Malcolm Sutherland, event and race director, said “we’d like to thank everyone involved in helping us put on this event; from our stakeholders, sponsors, our 400 volunteers, the communities along the routes, our charities, and most importantly, our runners.”
