Snow day fun after wintry blast shuts many Highland schools

Heavy snow may have caused the temporary closure of dozens of schools on Thursday - but it also meant plenty of family-fun on the hills.

Young and old took to the great outdoors to make the most of the early start to winter, with sledging proving a popular pastime.

And with more snow forecast heading into Friday, there’ll still be plenty of chances to enjoy the picturesque wintry landscapes before the arrival of Storm Bert at the weekend brings on a rapid thaw.

The Courier’s photographers were out and about on Thursday to capture some of the snowy scenes and the wintry fun.
