PICTURES: High winds overnight bring down trees in the Inverness area
High wind warnings remain in place on the Kessock Bridge near Inverness this morning after a night of gales.
Wind speeds have been easing significantly after the storm, but there was debris evident in various parts of Inverness – and a number of fallen trees reported overnight.
The Dornoch Bridge in Sutherland also remains closed to high-sided vehicles.
The Met office is reporting that winds are still gusting at between 30 to 40 mph in certain parts of Inverness-shire and the Highlands.
Local residents rallied to help clear a minor road and well-used school and active travel route at Cradlehall, close to the Resaurie Railway Bridge.
The route links Resaurie, Smithton & Culloden with Cradlehall and the university campus.
Councillor Duncan Macpherson contacted Highland Council’s emergency out of hours service with a view to getting roads team assistance.
Residents from nearby properties worked to clear the route of rotten tree branches that had fallen and it is understood the pathway is now passable to pedestrians and cyclists.
Cllr Macpherson said last night: “Hopefully it will be cleared in time for school children, families, workers and commuters tomorrow morning.”
A number of fallen trees were reported at different locations across the city.
