PICTURES: Town marks end of era as Alness Commercial Hotel changes ownership
IF outgoing Commercial Hotel owner Graeme Robertson had a wee tear in his eye at the weekend, who could blame him?
The award-winning Alness hotel has been in the family since 1986 and witnessed many of the town’s happiest memories in that time.
It is now in the hands of Roslyn Fraser, who also owns the Beaufort in Inverness.
Graeme took it over after his dad Guthrie retired but is now standing down himself to spend more quality time with his family “before they fly the nest”.
He was given a terrific send-off at the weekend and has told loyal customers he will stop pop in for a catch-up every so often.
“I have made some great friends during the past 36 years and unfortunately had to say goodbye to a few characters too. We would like to thank all of our customers for their support over the years, especially those who have helped make the Comm the place it is today!
“We would like to thank all our staff past and present for their loyalty and friendship, especially those that have been with us for many years. As you can all imagine this is an emotional time for me as the Commercial has been a massive part of my adult life and I will miss the banter, so I will pop in now and again for a wee catch up and pint.”
The rest of the staff will be staying on board at the Commercial, including his brother Gary, who still works there. He added: “We would like to take this opportunity to wish Roslyn every success in the future, I know we’re leaving the hotel in safe hands.”
