Plans for new floodlights at Station Park step forward as Nairn County lodges application
A planning application to replace the existing floodlights at Nairn’s Station Park has been lodged.
In the past months Nairn County volunteers have been busy fundraising for the improvement – raising £17,000 with the help of the local community.
Club chairman Mark Kelman said: “We are very grateful for the fantastic fundraising effort so far, they have done tremendously well.
“We still have a bit to go yet but we are in the process of applying for further funding.
“It will be great for the club, the floodlights have been there for years and they really need to be replaced now.”
The aim is to have the work done at the end of the season.
Fundraising volunteer Donald Wilson said: “I’m sure all the fans will be excited to hear this project has taken a step forward.
“We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that the planning process is smooth and funding applications are successful to make this happen.
“Nairn County fans have a track record of putting their shoulders to the wheel to support the club and have raised well over six figures over the past decade towards ground development projects.
“The current board, if you’ll pardon the pun, don’t let the grass grow under their feet. They have taken the club to a new level and the team really looks capable of targeting the top four next season.
“Any work we do as fans for ground Improvements relieves pressure on the board supporting team development.
“We have many new fans coming to support the club on match days and I would be delighted to hear from anyone who can come up with projects to support the fund – buying a seat at the Sportsman’s Dinner on March 1 at the Drummossie Hotel is another way to support the club.
“Many teams in the Highland League have lost Saturday games and the hospitality revenue they bring in due to the weather and despite the splendid condition of our playing surface we too have been impacted.
“I would like to see the fans continue the Ground Improvement Fund because there is a high cost in machinery and materials to maintain it at its current level.
“If anyone would like to donate to the fund or run an event I would be delighted to hear from them.”
