Police inquiries ongoing following ‘wilful’ fire in Inverness city centre thoroughfare

Police are treating a fire in a busy thoroughfare in Inverness city centre last night as wilful.

Firefighters were called to Market Brae Steps after bins were set alight about 7pm.

Police inquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Two fire appliances from Inverness were sent to the scene and the fire was reported to be out at 8.27pm.

A nearby building had to be ventilated due to smoke from the fire.

Market Brae Steps, which lead to the city’s Crown area, were cordoned off during the incident.

Police officers were also in attendance.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The fire was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and the fire is being treated as wilful.

"There were no reported injuries.

"Inquiries are ongoing.”
