Inverness Fairways fire - police remain at scene
Police officers are continuing around-the-clock surveillance of the remains of a fire-damaged building in Inverness more than a week after the blaze - while waiting for the property to be made safe.
At least two police vehicles have been seen at the site of the Fairways Business Park fire ever since emergency services were notified of the incident just after midnight last Sunday.
An appeal for a masked arsonist continues and residents in the area have been asked if they have any information to help with the investigation with police carrying out door-to-door enquiries.
A police spokesperson said the latest from CID on the fire was: “The fire caused extensive damage and the area is closed to the public.
“Officers remain in attendance as we await the building being made safe to allow a full, joint investigation to take place.
“Enquiries are continuing and detectives urge anyone with any information to come forward.”
The Inverness Courier has asked for clarity on who the police are waiting for to make the building safe.
Last week, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it was involved in a joint investigation alongside colleagues from Police Scotland.
When the Courier sought clarity last week on whether Highland Council had any formal role in the aftermath of the fire, including the safety of what remains of the building, a council spokesperson said: “As there is an ongoing police investigation we have not accessed the site, however, we continue to liaise with the fire service and the police.”
The area was fenced off ahead of the weekend.
The blaze, which has impacted several businesses, was brought under control by 30 full-time and retained firefighters from six stations. They were praised for preventing the flames from having a greater impact on other businesses located nearby.
