General election 2024: Polls close in Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey





Voting has now finished in the new parliamentary constituency of Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey.

The doors closed at 10pm at all 86 of the polling stations.

They stretch all the way from Lossiemouth in the north. to Dalwhinnie 75 miles away in the south.

The sealed ballot boxes in which they are contained are set to make the journey to Elgin Town Hall where a team of 50 counters are seated arranged around ten tables downstairs.

The first is set to arrive at about 10.30pm, while the last is expected around midnight.

Seven candidates are contesting the seat.

They are Neil Alexander (Lib Dems), James Hynam (Labour), Graham Leadbitter (SNP), Euan Morrice (Scottish Family) Kathleen Robertson (Conservative), Steve Skerrett (Reform) and Draeyk Van Der Horn (Greens).

The result is expected at about 4.30pm.
