Warm wishes have flooded in after a popular Victorian Market shop announced it is to close.

Ginger, which offers a mix of unique, fashionable and affordable accessories for women, has been a fixture of the bustling shopping arcade for 16 years.

But in sad news, on Saturday it posted a message to its social media channels confirming it will be shutting its doors.

“End of an era! The time has come to close Ginger,” said its owner Esther Nelson.

“Retail has become different and difficult and with the loss of my beloved furry best friend Basil I find it so sad in the shop without him! Pop in to say goodbye, also everything is reduced, you might get a bargain.

“Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for all your support over the last 16 years.”

The surprise announcement has sparked a flurry of messages from fans of the shop, Esther and Basil.

Inverness City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) said: “We’re sorry to share this but understand how hard it is for Esther and wish her well.”

It was a sentiment shared by many others.

Yvonne Lobban said: “Sorry to hear this. Best wishes for whatever you do in the future. Will miss seeing you in Ginger xx”

Nicola O’Hara was another of the dozens of responses to Esther’s post. She said: “Aw Esther, such sad news, but you've got to do what's right for yourself. Take care xxx”

And Violet Macmillan added: “So sorry to read this. Sending you a big hug and wishing you well x”
